Thai AirAsia (FD, Bangkok Don Mueang) is the second Thai commercial carrier to complete its AOC recertification according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand's (CAAT) revised, ICAO-compliant standards. In a statement, Thai Air Asia CEO Tassapon Bijleveld said the budget carrier is determined to adhere to international safety standards.
"Thai AirAsia is ready to continue to work for the nation to remove the red flags placed upon its airline industry as planned," Bijleveld said.
As previously reported, Bangkok Airways (PG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) was the first airline to meet the new standards in late-February. Other airlines in the first group of nine are Thai Airways International, Thai AirAsia X, Nok Air, NokScoot, K-Mile Asia, Thai Smile and Orient Thai Airlines.
The CAAT hopes to recertify the airlines by June 2017 so that it can undergo an ICAO audit to address shortcomings identified during its 2015 Significant Safety Concern (SSD) finding.
Thai AirAsia currently operates fifty A320-200s and three A320neo which it deploys on scheduled flights throughout Thailand as well as to Malaysia, China, Macau, Laos, India, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Myanmar, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Singapore.
