Tobago Airways (Tobago) is planning to launch domestic shuttle operations between Port of Spain and Tobago as early as March 1, 2018. The airline is currently seeking investors to fund its initial operations, the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian has reported.
According to the investor presentation, the airline plans to deploy an aircraft operated under an ACMI contract by UK-based Airline Solutions Ltd. Tobago Airways sees a potential for a shuttle service connecting Trinidad with Tobago due to the reportedly unsatisfactory level of service provided by Caribbean Airlines (BW, Port of Spain), which operates 144 weekly round trips between the islands onboard ATR 72-600 turboprops.
Tobago Airways is projecting a USD2.12 million profit before tax in the first year of operations.
According to the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian, Carribean Airlines received a TTD41 million (USD6.1 million) subsidy for the inter-island shuttle in 2017, but in spite of that failed to turn a profit on this route.
