JU-Air (Dübendorf) has suspended operations until further notice following the crash of one of its Ju-52/3m on the slopes of Piz Segnas in eastern Switzerland on August 4, 2018.

A 1939-vintage, HB-HOT (msn 6595) was performing a sightseeing flight from Locarno to Dübendorf when it impacted the ground at high speed for as of yet unknown reasons. All 17 passengers and three crew on board died. The Ju-52 was previously owned by Schweizer Luftwaffe (SUI, Bern).

The incident is now under investigation by the Federal Prosecution Office (Bundesanwaltschaft) together with the cantonal police and prosecution office in the canton of Grisons.

JU-Air, whose full name is Verein der Freunde der schweizerischen Luftwaffe (Friends of the Swiss Air Force), has underlined that HB-HOT underwent servicing at the end of July. It also said that since 1983 it has had a perfect safety record.

JU-Air operates two more Ju-52s.
