flyGTA Airlines (SX, Toronto Billy Bishop City Centre) operated its first scheduled passenger service from Toronto City Centre to the Canadian town of Wiarton, Ontario, on May 24, the Owen Sound Sun Times reported.

The return service on an eight-seat Piper (twin piston) PA-31-350 will operate daily from Friday to Monday at least until October 28 under an agreement between the airline and the airport’s owner, the Township of Georgian Bluffs.

Classified as a point of entry by the Canada Border Services Agency, Wiarton-Keppel International Airport has an asphalt runway, 05/23, measuring 1,534 metres, typically used by light aircraft with no more than 15 passengers.

Georgian Bluffs Mayor Dwight Burley said that demand for the new route would be taken up by passengers on business trips, tourists visiting the Grey-Bruce-Owen Sound area, and locals heading to Toronto for the weekend. The 185-kilometre flight takes 40 minutes.

Formerly known as Greater Toronto Airways, FlyGTA provides sightseeing tours over Toronto and Niagara Falls, air charter services, and scheduled flights from Toronto City to Muskoka, Barrie/Orillia, and Kitchener with a fleet of seven Piper Aircraft.
