Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) has made several public statements regarding its future plans with some of its loss making subsidiaries this week. CEO Christoph Franz announced that Lufthansa would "most likely" not exercise its option to acquire the remaining 55% stake in Brussels Airlines (SN, Brussels National) in 2012. Lufthansa has also said that it would consider closing down bmi british midland (Nottingham East Midlands) if the European Commission blocks the planned sale of the airline to competitor British Airways (BA, London Heathrow). Lufthansa Cargo (LH, Frankfurt International) is meanwhile planning to sell its 25% stake in grounded Chinese cargo carrier Jade Cargo International (Shenzhen).
