Binter Canarias (NT, Gran Canaria) is planning to enter the Portugal-Morocco market with a new fifth-freedom route connecting Funchal and Marrakech, ch-aviation schedule analysis has revealed.

The route will be served 2x weekly starting on July 3, 2022, through September 25, using Binter's ATR72s. The carrier operates six ATR72-500s and eight ATR72-600s, and a further twelve wet-leased from its subsidiary Canair, as well as five E195-E2s.

Binter's new route will be the only direct service between any of the Portuguese islands (Madeira or Azores) and Morocco. Mainland hubs Lisbon and Porto are connected to Agadir, Casablanca Mohamed V, Fes Saïss, Marrakech, Oujda, and Tangiers, the ch-aviation schedules module indicates.

Currently, all of Binter's international services - including to Funchal and Marrakech - depart exclusively from its main base at Gran Canaria airport. It operates a domestic PSO route in Portugal from Funchal to Porto Santo, while its former subsidiary TICV - Transportes Interilhas de Cabo Verde (3B, Praia) plies domestic routes in Cabo Verde under the Bestfly Cabo Verde brand.
