SmartLynx Airlines Malta (2N, Malta International) took delivery of its first B737-8 on May 31, 2022, after 9H-ORN (msn 44863) was ferried from Prague Václav Havel to Malta International in an all-white livery. The jet was delivered to Jet Airways (JAI, Mumbai International) in 2018 but returned during the Indian carrier's business restructuring. It is owned by SMBC Aviation Capital, the ch-aviation fleets ownership module shows.

The MAX 8 began operating charters for SmartLynx Airlines Malta and its sister carrier SmartLynx Airlines Estonia (MYX, Tallinn Lennart Meri) on June 11, 2022, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. It is currently based out of Tallinn Lennart Meri and is the first Boeing jet operated by SmartLynx Airlines (6Y, Riga) or its Estonian or Maltese subsidiaries.

The Maltese airline's fleet has thus far comprised Airbus aircraft exclusively: seven A320-200s, two A321-200s, one A321-200(P2F), one A321-200(PCF), and seven A330-300s.

SmartLynx Airlines Malta plans to take at least another two B737-8s this year, the ch-aviation fleets module reveals. The Avia Solutions Groupwned ACMI/charter carriers are currently in a rapid growth phase as they plan to double their combined fleet to around 60 aircraft this year.
