Iran to repair and provide parts for Russian aircraft
01.08.2022 - 03:45 UTCIran has signed a deal with Russia in which it will export parts and equipment manufactured in Iran for Russian aircraft, as well as for the Middle Eastern country’s repair centres to carry out repair and maintenance services and give technical support to Russian carriers, Iran’s state-run Mehr News Agency reported citing comments by Civil Aviation Organisation of Iran (CAO) spokesman Mir-Akbar Razavi.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was reportedly signed when Dmitry Zverev, Russia’s deputy transport minister, visited Iran on a working visit in late June and met the head of the aviation authority, Mohammad Mohammadi-Bakhsh. The deal was later affirmed when Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Iran on July 20 for his first trip outside the former Soviet Union since his invasion of Ukraine.
The two sides have also agreed to increase the number of flights between Russia and Iran to 35 per week, the news agency said. According to the ch-aviation capacities module, there are currently five - Aeroflot and Nordwind Airlines link Moscow Sheremetyevo with Tehran Imam Khomeini...
EU clarifies Russia sanctions on aircraft spares and tech
26.07.2022 - 05:29 UTCAs part of a revised “maintenance and alignment” package of sanctions against Russia which the Council of the European Union adopted on July 21 was the easing of restrictive measures on aircraft spare parts and technology for the Russian aviation sector.
The value of shares in Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo) rose 5% on the news, outperforming the rest of the market, so that they reached RUB27.70 rubles (USD0.4766) on the day of the announcement and RUB28.80 (USD0.4954) by the close of July 25.
The raft of clarifications and, in most areas, additional sanctions listed in Council Decision (CFSP) 2022/1271 and Council Regulation (EU) 2022/1269 mentioned aviation only briefly. They now deem it “appropriate” to “allow the sharing of technical assistance with Russia for aviation goods and technology insofar as it is needed to safeguard the technical industrial standard setting work of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).”
The sanctions are in response to Russia’s continuing war of aggression against Ukraine, and this seventh package of new measures is “intended to tighten existing economic sanctions targeting...
Sri Lankan court dismisses lessor's claim against Aeroflot
22.07.2022 - 05:03 UTCThe Sri Lankan Commercial High Court dismissed a claim filed by Celestial Aviation Trading Limited, a special purpose vehicle of AerCap, against Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo) in relation to the lessor's attempt to repossess an A330-300 at Colombo Int'l airport in early June 2022.
Justice Sumith Perera agreed with the Russian carrier and the Sri Lankan Civil Aviation Authority that once the aircraft left the island, Sri Lankan courts no longer had jurisdiction over the matter. As such, the High Court was not able to grant a permanent injunction and the repossession of the aircraft, as sought by the lessor. The court dismissed a counterclaim for compensation filed by Aeroflot on exactly the same grounds. The judge underlined that the court had jurisdiction to issue an interim order and seize the aircraft once it was at Colombo airport but could not rule over the case once the A330 had left.
Celestial Aviation filed for an interim injunction on June 2, seeking to seize RA-73702 (msn 1301) - formerly VQ-BMY - at the Sri...
