Royal Jordanian (RJ, Amman Queen Alia) has selected Embraer E2s for the renewal of its regional fleet and has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for ten aircraft, covering both the E190-E2 and the E195-E2, to significantly grow its regional fleet.

The airline said that the deliveries would take place "over the next several years" but did not disclose the exact split of the order between the two variants. The ch-aviation fleets module shows that the carrier's current regional fleet comprises two E175s (14.3 years old on average) and two E195s (15 years), all of which are owned by the airline.

The E195-E2s will seat 12 passengers in business class and 108 in economy, while the E190-E2s will be configured for 12 and 80 passengers in the respective classes.

The MoU was signed just days after the airline announced the choice of twenty A320-200Ns for the renewal of its narrowbody fleet. In June, CEO Samer Majali disclosed to ch-aviation that the airline was contemplating an order combining ten E2 regional jets and twenty narrowbody aircraft.

Royal Jordanian said it remained in discussions with Boeing concerning the growth of its widebody fleet. The airline currently operates seven B787-8s (and has a further two on firm order).
