Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi) has signed a memorandum of understanding with fellow Star Alliance member Thai Airways International (TG, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) which will see both airlines roll-out codeshare flights across their networks and look at wide-ranging commercial collaborations.

Initially, the two airlines will codeshare on each other’s flights between Singapore and Bangkok. Subject to regulatory approval, Thai Airways is aiming to codeshare on Singapore Airlines flights to New York JFK, New York Newark, Seattle Tacoma International, Houston Intercontinental, San Francisco, Los Angeles International, Vancouver International, Cape Town International, and Johannesburg O.R. Tambo by 1Q 2023.

"Additional codeshare arrangements to points in both airlines’ networks will be explored to support increased air connectivity to Thailand and Singapore, as well as points in Europe, India, and South West Pacific routes," reads a joint statement from the airlines.

According to the ch-aviation PRO airlines module, Singapore Airlines is now flying to 83 destinations in 36 countries and Thai Airways flies to 43 destinations in 24 countries. Both airlines only offer international flights to and from their respective hubs.

"This cooperation between the two airlines will certainly cater for the demand of travellers between Thailand, Singapore, and beyond," said Suvadhana Sibunruang, Thai Acting CEO. "It will also enable the expansion of Thai’s network to more service points in the United States, Canada, South Africa, Europe, India, and South West Pacific routes."
