Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) and Emirates (EK, Dubai International) have announced to form an alliance that will see the two carriers start to closely cooperate on services between Australia and Europe from the end of March 2013. The so called global partnership between the two carriers will include a revenue and cost sharing joint venture on the now renamed "Falcon Route" replacing the so called "Kangaroo Route" joint venture with Oneworld partner British Airways (BA, London Heathrow) between Australia and Europe. Qantas will drop Frankfurt International as a destination but continue to operate two daily A380-800 services operating from both Melbourne Tullamarine and Sydney via Dubai International (instead of Singapore Changi) to London Heathrow. This will allow Qantas to offer one-stop connections between Australia and Europe previously limited to Frankfurt and London and is one of the key reasons for the partnership given Gulf carriers like Emirates as well as Asian competitors have made it increasingly difficult for Qantas to compete. Qantas will continue to serve Singapore from Adelaide International, Brisbane International, Melbourne, Perth International and Sydney. It will also continue to codeshare with British Airways but terminate the joint venture agreement by the end of March 2013. Qantas' codeshare agreements with Cathay Pacific (CX, Hong Kong International) for the route from Hong Kong International to Rome Fiumicino and with Air France (AF, Paris CDG) for the routes from Hong Kong International and Singapore Changi to Paris CDG will however be dropped.
