Gambia Bird (Banjul) is now expected to launch in early October and will shortly take delivery of its first A319-100 D-ASTA (c/n 4663) on wet-lease from 90% shareholder Germania Express (Berlin Schönefeld). Conakry, Dakar Yoff-Léopold Sédar Senghor International, Freetown, London Gatwick and Lagos have been mentioned as the first destinations it wishes to serve from Banjul.

Titan Airways to begin London-Gambia flights this October
02.07.2015 - 11:20 UTCTitan Airways (ZT, London Stansted) is to shift one of its three London Stansted-based A320-200s to London Gatwick for use on flights to Banjul, Gambia beginning later on in winter this year.
Operating in partnership with tour operator, The Gambia Experience, the flights will operate up to 3x weekly from mid-October 2015 up to the end of April 2016.
Gambia last saw direct scheduled flights to the United Kingdom through the now defunct Gambia Bird (Banjul) subsidiary of Germania (Berlin Schönefeld). The carrier's demise has been blamed, in part, on the devastating effects of the 2014 Ebola Outbreak which severely affected West Africa's tourism industry.
Thomas Cook Airlines UK (Manchester International) will also serve Banjul from Birmingham, GB, London Gatwick and Manchester International as well.
Gambia Bird suspends flight operations effective immediately
30.12.2014 - 19:55 UTCGambia Bird (Banjul) has suspended flight operations effective immediately it has announced in a statement issued earlier today. The Gambian subsidiary of German carrier Germania (Berlin Schönefeld) used a single A319-100 D-ASTA (msn 4663) wet-leased from its German parent for schduled services from Banjul to Accra via Dakar Yoff-Léopold Sédar Senghor International as well as to Barcelona El Prat and London Gatwick.
Gambia Bird did not give any reasons for the suspension of flight operations "until further notice". It has however reasssured passengers in its written statement that all unused tickets would be fully refunded. The carrier had previously been forced to cancel several of its routes due to a lack of demand and because of health concerns due to the Ebola outbreak in neighbouring countries.
UK government nixes Gambia Bird's Sierra Leone flight plans
16.10.2014 - 00:16 UTCGambia Bird (Banjul) has been forced to cancel its planned resumption of Freetown, Sierra Leone, to London Gatwick flights after the UK Department for Transport revoked the carrier's flight permit citing the deteriorating public health situation in the West African country.
Flights, which were to have resumed on Friday, October 17, have now been postponed indefinitely.
The Germania (Berlin Schönefeld) subsidiary says, however, that its flights to London Gatwick from Banjul and Dakar Yoff-Léopold Sédar Senghor International are not affected by the move.
Sierra Leone, along with Liberia and Guinea, has borne the brunt of the ongoing Ebola outbreak which has so far killed over 4'000 people throughout the region.
