Ethiopian Airlines (ET, Addis Ababa International) has agreed to order eleven B787-9s and twenty B737-8s from Boeing (BOE, Washington National). As part of the commitment, announced during the Dubai Airshow 2023, Ethiopian has also gained options for a further 15 and 21 jets respectively.

"We are pleased to announce that Ethiopian Airlines has reached a deal with Boeing to place a firm order for 31 ultra-modern airplanes, with opportunity for 36 additional jets," said Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew. "This order will enable us to modernize and increase our fleet in support of Ethiopian Airlines' growth plan and our Vision 2035 Strategy."

According to Boeing, the new MAX order is still subject to finalisation. No delivery dates for any of the types were revealed.

The ch-aviation fleets module shows Ethiopian operates thirteen MAX 8s with 17 more to be delivered while for the B787s, it operates ten -9s and nineteen B787-8s. In terms of other passenger jets in service, the state-owned carrier also operates twenty A350-900s (with orders for four A350-1000s), eleven B737-800s, six B777-200(LR)s, and four B777-300(ER)s.
