1time airline (Johannesburg O.R. Tambo) has been forced to suspend all of its operations on Friday, November 2 due to its financial difficulties. The low-cost carrier, which had mainly been serving domestic routes and international routes with leisure demand, has filed for liquidation on the same day. It had operated three MD-82s, four MD-83s and three MD-87s but had recently already been forced to file for business rescue (the South African equivalent of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection) in August 2012. Its new joint venture in Zimbabwe, Fresh Air (Zimbabwe) (Harare International), incidentally also was supposed to have its first flight on November 2. It is unclear if Fresh Air is directly affected by the liquidation of 1time, but obviously has lost one of its joint venture partners and the wet-lease operator for its planned operation.
