SriLankan Airlines (UL, Colombo International) is set to sign a USD2.5billion deal with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for six A330-300s and four A350-900s as part of its fleet renewal plans. There is also talk of Airbus setting up an MRO facility at Hambantota, the country's recently commissioned second international airport, as a likely deal-sweetener. Colombo is said to have already approved an initial payment of USD80 million for the re-fleeting of the airline which made a loss of USD164 million last year. Currently, the Sri Lankan national carrier operates an all-Airbus fleet of six A340-300s, seven A330-200s and eight A320-200s.
