Arik Air (W3, Lagos) is poised to take delivery of two A330-200s, 5N-JIC (c/n 891) & 5N-JID (c/n 927), on lease from Irish aviation specialists, Pembroke Group, later in the month. In an interview at Arik Air's headquarters in Lagos, Mr Joseph Arumemi Ikhide-Johnson, the company's founder and chairman, said the two A330s would augment his airline's plans to increase their New York JFK frequencies from 3x weekly, to daily from October 2013 on. While the jets are four years old, Mr Ikhide-Johnson said the game plan was to use them for eight years and then swap them for new Airbus A350s. Arik also has seven B787-9s, two B747-8s and eight B737-800s on order from Boeing (BOE, Washington National). As such, following the 737-800 deliveries, Arik aims to reach into Egypt and North Africa and then to East Africa with additional frequencies to South Africa where Arik also holds rights to Cape Town International. With a new BASA with Israel also in the process of being finalized, Arik intends to begin Tel Aviv Ben Gurion flights as well.
