US Airways (Phoenix Sky Harbor) plans to leave Star Alliance on March 1, 2014 and join Oneworld in April, Industry publication, the Frequent Business Traveller, has reported. US Airways' merger partner American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) was a founding member of oneworld. Scott Kirby, who will serve as the COO of the combined airline, said that January 7, 2014 will be “a big day for us.” “We will become a single airline or at least take the first step of becoming a single airline” on that day.

ASTA calls for antitrust review of American Airlines
27.09.2023 - 23:43 UTCThe American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) is tackling what it calls American Airlines' dominant United States market position, seeking regulatory antitrust intervention in terms of fare distribution, airport slot allocation, travel agency agreements, competition in the domestic airline sector, and a review of airline alliances.
In a September 22 letter, ASTA, in particular, requests the Department of Transportation (DOT) to issue an order temporarily directing American to immediately restore parity between its new New Distribution Capability (NDC) fare platform implemented unilaterally on April 3, 2023, and the traditional EDIFACT protocol that has been in use since the 1980s.
This follows ASTA's antitrust complaint against American filed in March 2023 with the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) after the carrier immediately removed more than 40% of its fare inventory from traditional booking channels when it switched to the NDC.

Fake parts paperwork scandal ensnares American Airlines
26.09.2023 - 15:31 UTCAmerican Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) has become the latest carrier to disclose it has also been caught up in a growing scandal involving fake engine parts supplied by a UK-based entity called AOG Technics. The carrier first confirmed to Bloomberg on September 21 that some of its aircraft were impacted.
"Through the work of internal audits as well as collaboration with our suppliers, we’ve identified the uncertified components on a small number of aircraft. Each were immediately taken out of service for replacement,” an airline spokesperson said. "We’ll continue working with our suppliers and coordinating closely with the FAA to ensure these parts are no longer in our supply or otherwise in use on our aircraft.”
TAP Air Portugal (TP, Lisbon) was the first operator to flag the problem in July when it uncovered parts installed on certain CFM International-manufactured engines were supported by fraudulent documentation. Airlines face US antitrust lawsuit over slot system
20.09.2023 - 11:17 UTCThe International Air Transport Association (IATA), more than 60 airlines, and a slew of airport operators are facing a multi-billion dollar antitrust lawsuit in the United States, which claims the current system of allocating airport slots amounts to a cartel that prevents private operators from entering the market with more competitive slot allocation methods.
Steve Endres, the chief executive of Exhaustless Inc., a US company specialising in algorithm-based solutions to reduce flight delays and airport congestion, has filed a civil suit in the US District Court of Massachusetts against 85 defendants. These include IATA, the National Air Cargo Group, the Air Transport Association of America, d/b/a Airlines for America, 63 airlines (including US and international carriers), airport owners and operators in Chicago, Greater Orlando, Los Angeles, Washington, New York and New Jersey, San Franciso, and the Port of Seattle, plus the attorneys general of Florida and Texas.
