flydubai (FZ, Dubai International) has signed an order with Boeing (BOE, Washington National) for seventy-five B737 MAX 8s and eleven B737-800s, valued at USD8.8billion at list prices. In addition, the airline retains purchase rights for 25 more B737 MAXs. The order was first announced as a commitment at the 2013 Dubai Airshow. Commenting on the order, flydubai Chief Executive Officer Ghaith Al Ghaith said: "2013 has been a tremendous year for flydubai. We have launched 16 new routes, delivered profitability in just three years of operation and launched our Business Class service. The confirmed order for 75 737 MAXs and 11 Next-Generation 737-800s signifies the maturing of the airline and the strength of our business model as well as support flydubai's ambitious growth."

Saudi Arabia's flynas to set up AOCs in other MENA states
17.01.2023 - 08:44 UTCflynas (XY, Riyadh) is planning to establish units with their own Air Operator's Certificates in two unnamed Middle Eastern countries, Bloomberg has reported, as part of efforts to support accelerated growth and double its scale of operations.
flynas did not respond to ch-aviation's request for more details regarding the location, size, and timeline for the new carriers' launch.
The LCC said that it was considering increasing its order book to 250 aircraft, including widebodies such as B787s or A350s, to propel its international expansion.
The privately-owned Saudi carrier currently operates thirteen A320-200s, twenty-eight A320-200Ns, and two A330-300s. It has a further fifty-nine A320-200Ns and ten A321-200NY(XLR)s on order from Airbus, and is awaiting two more second-hand A330-300s.
With 240,294 weekly scheduled departure seats, it is already the largest individual LCC in the Middle East (excluding flydubai, a former LCC which has evolved into a hybrid carrier cooperating with sister airline Emirates). Qatar Airways details World Cup network changes
31.10.2022 - 03:32 UTCQatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) has detailed the operational adjustments it will make to its network in order to cope with a surge in demand for travel to and from Qatar for the duration of the 2022 FIFA World Cup soccer tournament, due to run between November 20 and December 18.
“Due to unprecedented demand and a greater focus on bringing football fans to the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East, Qatar Airways is temporarily adapting its operations to a more point-to-point model," a spokesman told ch-aviation. "Throughout the course of the tournament, we will be reducing frequencies and provisionally scaling back flights to several destinations across our network.”
Destinations that will see their current frequencies cut for the duration of the tournament or until otherwise stated:
- Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, reduced from 3x to 2x weekly;
- Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya, to operate between 7x and 14x weekly, instead of 14x weekly;
