Eastern Air Lines (2009) (Miami International) has announced the signing of an initial order, along with the placement of deposits, for ten B737-800s with Boeing (BOE, Washington National). The startup has also secured purchase rights for ten Boeing 737 MAX 8s. A first B737-800 is expected in late Summer.

"Eastern is extremely honored and privileged to be in business with Boeing once again. Eastern's strong relationship with Boeing dates back to the 1930's, and later Eastern was the first airline to order and operate both the Boeing 727 and 757 aircraft. We will now proudly have the Boeing 737 Next Generation, and eventually the MAX aircraft, as our fleet standard," said Edward J. Wegel, Eastern's President and CEO.

Formed in 2009, Eastern Air Lines Group, Inc. plans to recapture the glory of days of its namesake predecessor, Eastern Air Lines (1926) (New York JFK), which operated between 1930 to 1991. Using the B737 as its workhorse, the start-up plans to base its operations out of Miami International.
