St. John's International Airport Authority in Newfoundland, Canada, has seized a B757-200 belonging to US carrier National Airlines (N8, Orlando Sanford) citing outstanding debts.
Following the issuance of a Newfoundland Supreme Court order last week, N176CA (msn 24543) was grounded at the airport on the evening of Friday, October 28.
"St. John’s International Airport Authority exhausted all avenues to collect these payments prior to obtaining this court order," it said. "The aircraft was scheduled to depart St. John’s International Airport at 5:45pm on Friday, but will not be released for service until outstanding payments are received."
For its part, National Airlines has cancelled all future weekly flights to St. John's from Orlando Sanford until December 16. While they will resume thereafter, the airline says it has decided not to extend the service beyond January 6, 2017.
