Bangalore International Airport has announced that Thumby Aviation (Mumbai Juhu) will launch a helicopter shuttle service from the airport to parts of the city, pending regulatory approval. Speaking at a press conference, the State Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri. Jayant Sinha, said that "this HeliTaxi service will ensure quick, seamless transfers to and from airports, at a cost similar to a luxury taxi fare."

Sinha added that he hopes other airports will adopt similar schemes to improve connectivity between airports and cities.

Thumby is expected to initially operate the service with two helicopters, a Bell Helicopter 412 and a Bell 407, according to Sahil Online.

Deccan Charters (Bangalore International) had previously attempted to launch a helicopter shuttle service, operating its SkyLimo from Bangalore to Bangalore HAL airport, Electronics City and Whitefield shortly after the new airport opened in 2008.

Bangalore airport is India's third busiest, with a weekly capacity of 296,780 seats across 1,837 flights. The majority of flights by capacity are to/from domestic destinations, with international services offered to neighbouring Asian countries and Europe. It is located approximately forty kilometres north of Bangalore's city centre.
