Iberia (IB, Madrid Barajas) will deploy its new A350-900 on the Madrid Barajas-New York JFK route later this year, the carrier has announced during the Fitur trade fair in Madrid.

The Spanish subsidiary of IAG International Airlines Group did not disclose the expected date of the aircraft's debut on the transatlantic route. However, the first delivery is expected in June. The airline is expected to take delivery of two aircraft of the type directly from Airbus this year.

Iberia has ordered a total of sixteen A350-900 from the manufacturer. The aircraft are expected to gradually replace the fleet of Iberia's seventeen A340-600s.

According to the ch-aviation schedules module, the carrier currently operates the 10x weekly route between Madrid and New York JFK with A330-300 equipment, although A340-600s are also occasionally deployed on the service.
