IndiGo Airlines (6E, Delhi International) is in talks with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) over a new aircraft order, Chief Executive Officer Ronojoy Dutta has told Bloomberg.

In an interview, Dutta said the low-cost carrier was currently looking at the A321neo(LR) and its still tentative sibling, the ultra-longhaul-capable A321neo(XLR).

“When we order, we’ll order in bulk for sure,” he said. “I can’t give you a tentative number, but it will be large. We need longer range.”

IndiGo currently has outstanding orders for 209 A320neo and 149 A321neo, enough to last IndiGo through to 2021, the executive said.

IndiGo currently operates 132 A320ceo, seventy-seven A320neo, two A321neo, and sixteen ATR72-600s on flights connecting 71 cities across India, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, Thailand, Hong Kong, Maldives, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Singapore, and Oman.
