Aer Arann Regional (Dublin International) is the new name of Aer Arann that has successfully exited examiner ship on November 10, 2011 following an investment from Stobart Transport Group, the owner of London Southend airport. It has already launched twice daily service to London Southend from Galway via Waterford using a mix of ATR 42-300s and ATR 72-200s on March 28 and is expected to add more destinations from the airport Stobart is planning to position as a new alternative airport for London. Southend is located approximately 50 minutes by train from central London. It will continue non-stop services from both Galway and Waterford to London Luton. Aer Arann Regional will give up its Public Service Obligation routes from Dublin to Galway, Knock, Londonderry and Sligo on July 21 as the Irish government has decided not to continue to subsidize these loss making routes anymore. Aer Arann has temporarily wet-leased two Do328-110s from Scot Airways (CB/Cambridge) to operate on some of these services in the meantime. The government will continue to subsidize the Dublin-Donegal route served by Aer Arann Regional and the Dublin-Kerry route served by Ryanair (FR/Dublin).
