American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) has announced it will order fifty A321neo(XLR)s at an event held during the 2019 Paris Air Show at Paris Le Bourget.

In a statement, the US carrier said its purchase agreement with Airbus includes the conversion of 30 of American's existing A321neo slots to XLRs, of which eight are due in 2023 and twenty-two in 2024, and incremental orders for an additional twenty XLRs due from 2025.

Collectively, the XLRs will replace American's existing fleet of thirty-four B757-200s.

"The A321XLR will have the longest range of any single-aisle commercial jetliner. The added range of up to 4,700 nm will allow airlines to operate the aircraft from U.S. East Coast airports to medium-sized European cities," it said.

Inclusive of this announcement, American has outstanding orders for 115 A321neo family jets of which sixty-five are standard variant and the remainder XLRs.

According to the ch-aviation fleets module, American Airlines currently operates 219 A321ceo and four A321neo.
