SKY Express (Greece) (GQ, Heraklion) has wet-leased a BAe 146-200 from Germany's WDL Aviation (Cologne/Bonn) to cover for an ATR42-500 which was damaged in a runway excursion incident on Naxos.

The German carrier said in a press release that D-AZFR (msn E2108) will operate from Athens to Heraklion, Thira Santorini, and Chania on behalf of the Greek regional airline. The 31-year-old quadjet was ferried from Cologne/Bonn to Athens on July 14 and started operating on behalf of Sky Express the day after, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows.

Sky Express needed a replacement aircraft after one of its seven ATR42-500s, SX-FOR (msn 524), was damaged on Naxos on July 12. The aircraft went off the runway during a pre-departure backtrack at the airport's 900-metre-long runway. Sky Express also operates a single ATR42-300 and five ATR72-500s. It had also wet-leased an ATR72-500 from BRA - Braathens Regional Airways (TF, Trollhättan) until July 15.

The Greek airline wet-leased another BAe 146-200 from WDL Aviation, D-AWUE (msn E2050), between April 20 and May 12, 2019. The German airline currently operates three active BAe 146-200s and three E190LRs (one of them wet-leased to Finnair); it also has four BAe 146-300s in storage (including three freighters).
