Thai Lion Air (SL, Bangkok Don Mueang) took delivery of its first A330-900 after HS-LAK (msn 1933) was ferried directly from Toulouse Blagnac to Bangkok Don Mueang over the course of October 22-23, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. The aircraft will complement Thai Lion Air's existing widebody fleet of three A330-300s.

According to the ch-aviation schedules module, the Thai LCC plans to debut the A330-900 in commercial operations on October 27, deploying it first on a daily route to Denpasar. It will subsequently be put into production on services to Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta (4x weekly from November 4), Taipei Taoyuan (daily from November 4), Singapore Changi (3x weekly from November 5), and Nanchang International (weekly from November 5).

Thai Lion Air originally planned to debut A330-900 operations in late August 2019. The carrier expects deliveries of a further two units of the type, HS-LAL (msn 1939) and HS-LAM (msn 1956), shortly.

In July 2019, parent carrier Lion Air (JT, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) acquired its first A330-900 and has since added a second unit of the type. The Indonesian LCC uses the two Airbus widebodies nearly exclusively on services between Indonesia and Madinah and Jeddah International in Saudi Arabia.
