Air Frontier (Darwin) , an Australian air charter operator focussing on the country's Northern Territory, announced on its official Facebook account that it has created a base at Bathurst Island, also known as Bathurst Island Airport, in the Tiwi Islands. The airport, which is 41 nautical miles or 77 kilometres from Darwin, is located at Wurrumiyanga, on the south-east coast of Bathurst Island.

As of December 1, Air Frontier which has a fleet of more than 40 light aircraft, will station a Cessna (single piston) 210 and pilot at Bathurst. The five-seater is available for both freight and charter to and from anywhere in the Northern Territory.

In its Facebook announcement, Air Frontier said: "We are excited about the new opportunities that this will provide for the Tiwi people and organisations. An aircraft in this base can provide a much cheaper and efficient way to travel between the communities and into Darwin. We look forward to strengthening our continued relationship with the Tiwi people and our valued customers."

Established for over 40 years, the charter operator's existing four bases are located in Darwin, Maningrida, Gove, and Groote Eylandt. According to the airline's website, its fleet is made up of seven Piper (twin piston) Piper Chieftains, four PA-31 Piper Navajos, six Beech Barons, fifteen Cessna C210s, three Cessna C207s, and two Beech Bonanzas.
