Longtail Aviation (6T, Bermuda) has added its first dedicated freighter aircraft in the form of B747-400FSCD VQ-BWS (msn 27503), the Bermuda Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) and the carrier said in separate press releases.

"This is an excellent time to add a heavy-lifting cargo aircraft because the global supply chain is under duress. Additional long-range, heavy aircraft are critically needed to move medical supplies from China to the West, and this new aircraft will help meet that need," Chief Executive Martin Amick said.

The Boeing quadjet was previously operated by Cargolux (CV, Luxembourg) as LX-FCL and was retired in mid-December 2019 before being ferried to Kansas City International for storage. The 25-year-old aircraft was briefly re-registered in the United States as N875KW in early April and then cancelled from the US register on May 20, ahead of its addition to the BCAA register.

Both Longtail Aviation and UAE-based Aquiline, which represents the aircraft's owner, praised the BCAA's efficiency which allowed the carrier to register the aircraft and add it to its operational specifications in a very short time frame.

Longtail Aviation has thus far focused on business charter operations using a fleet that consists of a single B737-700(BBJ).
