Ultra Air (Medellín José Maria Córdova) will commence flight operations on February 23, having secured its air operator's certificate (AOC) from the Colombian civil aviation authority (Aerocivil) last week.
In a statement, the nascent budget carrier said it would service the following domestic Colombian routes:
- Bogotá - Medellín – Bogotá;
- Bogotá – Cali – Bogotá;
- Bogotá – Cartagena Rafael Núñez International – Bogotá;
- Bogotá - Santa Marta – Bogotá;
- Bogotá - San Andrés Island – Bogotá;
- Medellín - Cartagena – Medellín;
- Medellín - Santa Marta – Medellín;
- Santa Marta - Pereira - Santa Marta;
- Cartagena – Pereira – Cartagena.
Backed by USD30 million in initial capital, Ultra Air currently has a fleet of two A320-200s with two more awaiting delivery.
According to the ch-aviation capacities module, the domestic Colombian market is currently dominated by avianca airlines (AV, Bogotá) with 43.32% of the 745,010 weekly seats available followed by LATAM Airlines (LA, Santiago de Chile) with 24.55%, Viva (Colombia) (Medellín José Maria Córdova) with 23.27%, EasyFly (Colombia) (Bogotá) with 5.18%, Satena (9R, Bogotá) with 2.68%, and GCA Air (Cali) with 0.77%.
