Wizz Air (W6, Budapest) has announced the opening of a base in Suceava with the stationing of two A321-200NXs to open five new routes from the north-eastern Romanian city.
This means the Hungarian budget carrier now operates 11 routes to seven countries from Suceava's Ștefan cel Mare International Airport, the airline said in a statement.
The five new routes, frequencies, and launch dates are:
- December 15: 2x weekly to Paris Beauvais (France);
- December 16: 3x weekly to Brussels Charleroi (Belgium); and 2x weekly to Venice Treviso (Italy)
- December 17: 2x weekly to Larnaca (Cyprus); and 2x weekly to Eindhoven (Netherlands).
Wizz Air will also increase frequencies to the following Italian destinations from Suceava: 3x weekly to Bologna; daily to Milan Bergamo; and 5x weekly to Rome Fiumicino.
Speaking at a press conference in Suceava, Wizz Air Acting Network Officer Evelin Jeckel said the base's opening marks an important milestone for the carrier's Romanian network, which will continue to expand.
Wizz Air competes with Ryanair (FR, Dublin International) at Suceava where the Irish budget carrier has about 35% market share at the airport (in terms of weekly seat capacity), while Wizz Air trails at around 28%, with TAROM (RO, Bucharest Henri Coanda) holding a minor market share of about 8%, the ch-aviation Commercial Aviation Operator Capacity Data module shows.
