Batavia Air (Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) will be acquired by AirAsia (AK, Kuala Lumpur International) and its local partner Fersindo for approximately $80 million USD. The two parties already jointly own Indonesia AirAsia (QZ, Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta) with Fersindo holding a 51% stake and AirAsia the remaining 49%. The same ownership split will be applied to Batavia and it is widely expected that Batavia will eventually be integrated into Indonesia AirAsia operating a fleet of A320-100/-200s like the remainder of the AirAsia Group airlines. Batavia currently operates 5 A320-200s, 1 A321-200, 2 A330-200s, 14 B737-300s, 9 B737-400s and a single B737-500 mainly on domestic routes but also on international services to Dili, Guangzhou, Jeddah International, Kuching and Singapore Changi. Indonesia AirAsia has so far not been very strong in the domestic market operating only around one third of its flights on domestic routes.
