Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has re-organised MAB Engineering Services (MABES) into a wholly-owned subsidiary. MAG owns and operates Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, Amal by Malaysia Airlines, and MASwings.

ch-aviation recently reported that MAG was to be restructured into three divisions - airlines, aviation services, and loyalty and travel solutions. The aviation services division will look after MABES. Aviation services is responsible for overseeing the group's cargo, training, ground handling, and MRO operations. In addition to providing aircraft line and base maintenance to its own fleet, MABES wants to increase its third party MRO operations.

"With new capacity, capabilities, and services, the reorganisation of MABES will allow us to compete effectively in the third-party MRO market and lead the growth of the MRO business in Malaysia," said Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director of MAG.

According to a statement from MAG, MABES currently operates 11 production lines across three hangars, including hangar one at Kuala Lumpur Subang which looks after the ATR72-500s operated by Firefly and MASwings, while hangars five and six at Kuala Lumpur International cater to the the MAG jet aircraft. MAG says MABES holds 21 regulatory certifications covering Malaysia and other jurisdictions and is actively looking to expand its production lines over the next two years.
