Bulgaria Air (FB, Sofia) took delivery of its first A220-300 on June 16, 2023. The aircraft is the first of five to be dry-leased from Air Lease Corporation.

LZ-ROM (msn 55226) was ferried, post-handover, from Montréal Mirabel via Oslo Gardermoen to Sofia over the course of June 17-18, 2023, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. The aircraft is configured for up to 143 passengers, including eight dedicated business-class seats.

It is the first of three A220-300s due from Air Lease Corporation, with the other two scheduled for August and September 2023. The airline also confirmed that it has also added two A220-100s to its ALC contract but did not disclose any induction dates.

Bulgaria Air did not reveal its plans for the aircraft deployment, other than saying that the A220s will fly on international routes across Europe.

The ch-aviation fleets module shows that Bulgaria Air currently operates four E190s, two A319-100s, and five A320-200s. The airline did not respond to ch-aviation's query as to whether the A220s would replace any of its current aircraft or be for growth.
