Supernova Airlines (P7, Kyiv Boryspil) has revealed plans for all-cargo operations to New York in support of its parent company, Nova Poshta, and to develop a cargo segment for third-party companies and Ukraine.

The fledgling Ukrainian carrier - which launched on May 19, 2023 - has applied to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for a foreign air carrier permit and exemption authority for scheduled and on-demand charters ferrying property, mail, and cargo.

According to its regulatory filing, Supernova Airlines is designated by the State Aviation Administration of Ukraine (SAAU) to operate scheduled flights on routes between Kyiv and New York, plus Lviv and New York. Due to air space closures resulting from the war in Ukraine, it intends to operate its flights from Rzeszow Jasionka in Poland, Liège in Belgium or any other European Union authorised points. At the outset, the US routes will be limited to New York but may expand to additional US points in the future, depending on need.

Supernova Airlines intends to operate no less than three weekly all-cargo flights to New York or any other US point, increasing to five flights per week from certain EU airports with a fueling stop.

The airline aims to operate at least two widebody freighters - types still to be decided - allowing it to operate without technical stops directly between the EU and the US. In addition, it plans to operate at least one B737-800(F) on a wet-lease arrangement.

"Supernova Airlines is in the process of obtaining a Boeing B737-800 freighter aircraft to add to its Air Operating Certificate that currently includes two An-26-100 aircraft. The Boeing B737-800 freighter aircraft will still require a fueling stop," the company explained.
