Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) took delivery of its first A321-200NY(XLR), VH-OGA (msn 12323), ahead of the planned initial deployment on Australian domestic routes in mid-July 2025.
The aircraft was handed over to the carrier in late June 2025 and subsequently left Hamburg Finkenwerder on June 30. The ferry flight to Sydney Kingsford Smith will be operated with just a single stop, at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, and the aircraft is expected to arrive in Australia on July 2. It will then undergo final cabin preparations and be deployed on domestic routes for crew training.
The aircraft is configured for up to 197 passengers, including 20 seats in business class and 177 in economy. It is powered by Pratt & Whitney engines.
Once the initial training phase is over, Qantas plans to use the new type on thinner international routes across Asia-Pacific. It has yet to unveil its future network for the A321-200NY(XLR)s.
Qantas Group has ordered forty A321-200NY(XLR)s, 28 of which are earmarked for Qantas while twelve are for its low-cost carrier subsidiary, Jetstar Airways. The second unit, VH-OGB (msn 12427), is currently expected in August 2025, ch-aviation data shows.
