TAAG Angola Airlines (DT, Luanda 4 De Fevereiro) has taken delivery of the first of two B787-10 whitetails from Boeing as the airline continues with its widebody fleet modernisation, having already inducted two B787-9s earlier this year.
ADS-B data shows that TAAG's first B787-10, D2-TES (msn 60291), departed Everett in the United States on November 10 and arrived at the new Luanda Dr António Agostinho Neto in Angola 15 hours later on November 11, coinciding with the country's National Celebration Day. Symbolically, the aircraft carries a commemorative stamp celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of Angola's independence.
The second B787-10, D2-TET (msn 60293), was ferried from Everett to Victorville in the US on November 7, where it remains ahead of delivery to Angola at a date to be confirmed.
In a statement, TAAG said the 367-seater D2-TES had been incorporated under a leasing arrangement. The five-year-old aircraft seats 24 passengers in business class and 343 in economy. It will be deployed on TAAG's existing long-haul routes, but "will also support the prospecting of new routes, as outlined in TAAG's strategic plan 2024-2029," the airline said. TAAG earlier said that the first B787-10 would be placed on the Lisbon route.
The two new B787-9 whitetails acquired on a sale/leaseback basis from AerCap were delivered in January and September, respectively. D2-TEQ (msn 66877) operates to São Paulo Guarulhos, Cape Town International, and Johannesburg O.R. Tambo, while D2-TER (msn 66913) still awaits deployment in Luanda.
The four B787s will replace the oldest units in the airline's in-house B777 fleet, currently comprising three B777-200ERs and five B777-300ERs.
