Gulf Air (GF, Bahrain International) has firmed an order for fifteen B787-9s directly from Boeing, increasing its tentative commitment announced in July 2025 by three units.
The airline also secured three options, potentially increasing the commitment to 18 units.
In July, the Bahraini flag carrier said it would order twelve B787-9s with a further six options. It already operates ten units of the type and has two more on order under a commitment dating back to 2009, ch-aviation data shows.
However, while the current B787-9s, as well as the two remaining from the previous order, are outfitted with Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines, the new aircraft will come with General Electric GEnx units.
The B787s are Gulf Air's only widebody aircraft.
