As part of an expected formal trade deal between India and the United States to be signed in March, New Delhi is willing to place orders for Boeing aircraft worth up to USD100 billion, according to the country’s commerce and industry minister, Piyush Goyal.
Under the deal announced on February 2, the United States government slashed tariffs on Indian goods in exchange for India halting Russian oil purchases and buying USD500 billion worth of American goods. Among these are aircraft, Nvidia chips, oil, and gas, Goyal said, according to Reuters.
Orders placed or ready to be placed for aircraft, along with engines and other parts, would be worth up to USD100 billion.
ch-aviation data shows that Air India currently has orders for 109 B737-8s, sixty B737-10s, ten B777-9s, and nineteen B787-9s. It recently converted some B737 MAX options into firm orders. Akasa Air has orders for ninety-nine B737-10s and ninety-four B737-8-200s, and SpiceJet has orders for 129 B737-8s.
