Starsky Airlines (Mogadishu) has been left without in-house aircraft after its single F50 overran the runway on landing at Mogadishu on February 10. All 55 people on board survived the incident, which saw the aircraft come to rest in shallow seawater with a broken wing, according to videos posted online.
In a statement, the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA) confirmed the F50 involved was 60-YAS (msn 20177). According to ch-aviation fleets data, the 36-year-old turboprop was formerly operated by Kenya's Renegade Air and Skyward Express, following Travel Air and VLM (1992), after having been delivered to Aer Lingus Commuter in 1990.
Starsky Airlines also wet-leases one EMB-120RT(F), 7Q-YES (msn 120110), from Malawi's Flytech, which in turn leases the freighter from Arctic One, according to ch-aviation fleets data, although the aircraft could not be tracked on ADS-B data.
SCAA director-general Ahmed Hassan told the BBC that the F50 had returned to Mogadishu after the crew reported a problem shortly after takeoff, but overshot the runway on landing. The authority said all occupants were transported to a nearby hospital and that an investigation is underway.
ch-aviation has contacted Starsky Airlines for comment.
