Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi International) resumed flight operations at around 1430L (1030Z) on March 2, 2026, after the authorities of the United Arab Emirates partially reopened the country's airspace.
The carrier's first departure was a flight to London Heathrow operated with A380-800 A6-APF (msn 195).
This follows a Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) effective as of 1400L (1000Z) that lifted the previous full closure of Emirati airspace. Under the new rules, arrivals and departures from Abu Dhabi International, Abu Dhabi Bateen, Al Ain, and Fujairah are possible through selected routes. The General Civil Aviation Authority has also authorised limited widebody overflights through the country.
However, airports in the northwestern part of the country, including Dubai International, Dubai World Central, Sharjah, and Ras al Khaimah International remain closed to all operations.
The closure was in force since February 28, 2026, when the United States and Israel attacked Iran, prompting retaliatory attacks on the Gulf states, including the UAE.
