Qatar Airways (QR, Doha Hamad International) restarted limited flight operations from Doha Hamad International on March 7, after the authorities partially reopened Qatari airspace. Meanwhile, Jazeera Airways (J9, Kuwait) will restart limited repatriation charters from Qaisumah, an airport in Saudi Arabia located around 2.5 hours by road from Kuwait.

The Qatari flag carrier underlined that its operations are currently focused on passenger repatriation and are not yet scheduled. The number of flights remains very limited, albeit slowly growing, from five departures on March 7, to 15 planned for March 11.

Qatari airspace remains closed to all overflights until at least 1500L (1200Z) on March 9, according to the latest Notice to Air Missions.

Qatar Airways previously operated relief flights from Muscat, deploying aircraft that were stranded at these airports on February 28, when the airspace was closed as a result of the war in Iran. It also continues limited freighter flights around the world.

Meanwhile, Jazeera Airways said on March 8, 2026, that it had received the necessary permits from the Kuwaiti and Saudi authorities, but ADS-B data shows the flights have yet to begin. Initially, passengers will have to travel to and from Qaisumah on their own, although the LCC said it was planning to launch a dedicated bus connection to the airport. All passengers will also have to hold a valid Saudi visa.

The airline has remained largely grounded since February 28, when Kuwaiti airspace closed completely due to the ongoing war in Iran. It operates a limited number of Umrah charters between Saudi Arabia and Russia using two A320-200s and one A320-200N, which were outside Kuwait at the time of grounding.

Kuwait and Bahrain remain the last two of the Gulf states whose airspaces are completely closed to all civilian air traffic. The United Arab Emirates reopened before Qatar, while Saudi Arabia and Oman never closed their airspaces. Iran and Iraq also remain completely closed.
