Aegean Airlines (A3, Athens) plans to invest an additional EUR10 million euros (USD11.5 million) in Spanish low-cost carrier Volotea (V7, Barcelona El Prat) in 2026, after scaling back earlier funding plans. Executive chairman Eftichios Vassilakis told an earnings call on March 12 that it expects to contribute the sum in a new EUR16 million (USD18.5 million) capital tranche under discussion. He said Aegean invested EUR31 million (USD35.8 million) in 2024, then a further EUR6 million (USD6.9 million) in 2025 as part of a smaller-than-expected capital raise. This takes total investment to date to EUR37 million (USD42.7 million) and its stake to 20%.
The original plan had called for a total capital increase of up to EUR95 million (USD110 million) from shareholders, with Aegean taking around 55% in two tranches in 2024 and 2025. But Volotea’s shareholders later determined the company did not require the full EUR45 million (USD52 million) initially earmarked for the second phase.
