Maldivian Air Taxi (Malé) and Trans Maldivian Airways (TMW, Malé) are now controlled by a private equity fund managed by US investment firm Blackstone that has acquired a controlling interest in both seaplane operators. According to a press release by Blackstone, the owners and founders of the two airlines will continue to own a "significant" stake in each of the two operators and both entities will continue to operate separately. Both MAT and TMA concentrate on offering air taxi services between Malé and island resort destinations in the Maldives with a fleet of over 20 DHC-6 seaplanes each.
