VietJetAir (VJ, Hanoi Noi Bai International) will take delivery of its first A330-900N in 2026, board member Philipp Rösler said, as quoted in a Reuters report on April 24, 2026. The low-cost carrier intends to use the widebody aircraft to expand into European markets.
Rösler said the carrier is looking at direct flights to the Czech Republic, Germany, the UK, and France, although the launch will depend on the delivery of its long-haul widebody orders.
As previously reported by ch-aviation, VietJetAir ordered 20 additional A330-900Ns from Airbus in May 2025, doubling its commitment for the type to 40 aircraft. The airline had signed its initial order for twenty A330neo jets at the 2024 Farnborough Airshow to replace its existing eight A330-300s.
Rösler also told Reuters that VietJetAir wants to help develop Ho Chi Minh City into an Asia-Pacific aviation finance hub by bringing aircraft financing, leasing, insurance, and capital markets activities closer to fast-growing aviation markets.
The executive said the airline's operations remained normal despite cutting flights in March 2026 linked to potential fuel shortages. He added that two C909s that were previously being wet leased are no longer operating in VietJetAir's network, although the carrier still plans to deploy the Chinese-built regional jets, particularly on routes to China.
In April 2026, VietJetAir signed an agreement with SPDB Financial Leasing, covering the dry lease of up to ten C909s for use on routes between Viet Nam and China. The parties did not disclose a delivery timeline.
According to ch-aviation data, the carrier's in-house fleet includes eight A330-300s, alongside seventeen A320-200s, thirty-six A321-200s, eleven A321-200Ns, and thirty-three A321-200NX.
