Lufthansa Group has placed a firm order for ten A350-900s and ten B787-9, without disclosing to which of its airlines the aircraft will be allocated. Deliveries of the aircraft are planned between 2032 and 2034. The holding said they will be earmarked for replacement of older-generation widebodies rather than growth.

The holding already operates both types. ch-aviation data shows Lufthansa operates thirty-one A350-900s and seventeen B787-9s. Swiss operates two A350-900s, Edelweiss Air - four, and ITA Airways (in which the group holds a 41% stake) - six. Austrian Airlines' fleet includes three B787-9s. The group had a further twenty-one A350-900s (alongside fifteen A350-1000s) and twenty-two B787-9s on order, excluding the new commitment.
