Falkland Islands Government Air Service (Stanley Port) has reduced its southern winter schedule and will not operate flights on Wednesdays and Thursdays to allow for more extensive maintenance of its fleet and preserve it for the peak summer season in light of the delayed delivery of new BN-2 Islanders expected in late 2026. The government-owned airline said it discovered corrosion of the aircraft at the end of the last summer season, requiring additional maintenance. The lower number of flying days will also "reduce overall airframe hour usage by concentrating flying into fewer days, improving efficiency and helping preserve fleet availability". The cuts will remain in force until September 13, 2026. FIGAS assures it will remain flexible to increase the number of flights if necessary, and will always have at least one aircraft available for unscheduled flights.
