Pegasus Airlines (PC, Istanbul Sabiha Gökcen) has secured approval from the Turkish competition authority (Rekabet Kurumu) for its planned acquisition of the Smartwings Group, under a July 23, 2026 decision.

As previously reported by ch-aviation, Pegasus Airlines agreed in December 2025 to acquire 100% of Prague City Air, the parent holding company of the Czech aviation group, for an estimated EUR154 million euros (USD177.5 million). The transaction is being executed through Pegasus Europe B.V., a wholly owned Dutch subsidiary established to meet EU ownership and control requirements.

Smartwings is wholly owned by České aerolinie a.s., which formerly operated CSA Czech Airlines and now functions as a management company. CSA is no longer a certificated carrier and continues solely as a brand within the group. The transaction also covers Smartwings' AOCs in Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia.

Pegasus Airlines has said it expects the acquisition to close in 2026 once the required regulatory approvals are obtained. In June, chief executive Güliz Öztürk said the airline expected a European Commission decision within three to four months while ruling out further acquisitions in the near term.
