The UK's National Centre for Atmospheric Science has formally terminated its Facility for Airborne Atmospheric Measurements (FAAM) programme, resulting in the retirement of a research-configured BAe 146-300 more than midway through a planned refurbishment. G-LUXE (msn E3001) has been parked at Cranfield since August 2025 for the midlife upgrade, with GBP38 million pounds (USD51 million) of the initially planned GBP49 million (USD66 million) already spent. The Natural Environment Research Council said that "much of this [investment] will no longer provide useful capabilities for the future". The programme was cancelled after UK Research and Innovation abruptly cut further funding earlier this year.
