Bahrain Air (Bahrain International) has filed for liquidation voluntarily after an extraordinary general meeting on February 12 and has suspended operations with its fleet of two A319-100s and two A320-200s with immediate effect. Its board of directors has published a statement explaining the decision following financial losses caused by the political and security situation in Bahrain. Bahrain Air said it had never received compensation as promised by the government after having been forced to suspend routes and decrease frequencies on routes for political reasons to protect state owned Gulf Air (GF, Bahrain International) and because Bahrain cut air links to several countries following the political uprising in the island nation.
